I was able to attend for a late one day…the coldest of all. Met friends and heard good bands. Good that you’re able to have this event. I was surprised that MORE people from other ethnic groups were in attendance. This is good because I would think many would like others to know about Tejano Music. I have my personal thoughts about the location/for the number of people, but that will be for another time.

Had a great time at the fan fare even if the weather was cold it didn’t stop us from celebrating and to see all the bands. We also had a glimps of the young up coming talanet in the small childern that sang inside the market they were great. As for the sounds it was ok you got to understand it was a lot of bands shifting on and off the stages. The food was great had lots of goodies and of course the cold ones that went with the food. Can’t wait till July to get to see the all bands competting for the awards you got to be Tejano to love this music !

I am glad people have noticed that the sound was not very good this year. It was very dissapointing to know that such poor sound is being used for this event. Pretty much what the event is for is to show people what Tejano acts we have. I believe that if you are going to be holding a “MUSIC” event than the sound and the people running it should know how to run it. Do these people get paid to do this? If not than maybe the TTMA needs to invest a little bit more time and money in (1) getting equipment that works, and (2) paying for some sound men. Not all of the sound was bad. There were a couple of good sound men out at the event, but they were very limited to the equipment they had to use. It was extremely sad. Is this what our industry has been brought down to? I know that meeting with a lot of people, and considering that it was Spring Break in San Antonio, TX. there were people from all over the country and even the world that attended the event. I think that we should have a little more pride in our industry and even if it does mean paying some money to get some good equipment out there than so be it. I have attended the fan fair for many years and never has the sound been so bad. I feel bad for the bands that pay so much money to come out to this event to get shafted. Hopefully we can get this problem fixed and bring our industry back up to were it deserves to be. Thanks TTMA for giving us the opportunity to post our opinions. Take care and see you next year!!

I’ve been to Fan Fair the last 6 years. I believe everyone was pleased with the sound then. What happened this year? I didn’t get to go this year. Was there a change in the sound production companies?

Fan Fair was great, as always. Traveled from the DFW area.

Hello to everyone. Just wanted to add to the comment about the sound. I agree the smaller stages had horrible sound especially the Mariachi Stage, you couldn’t hear anything while you were performing and the outside sound was horrible as well. You couldn’t hear the voices at all and yes it makes you look bad and you have no control over it! Monitors would have been nice! All the groups work very hard to raise the money to perform and then to be put on a stage that is not up to standard is a dissapointment. Other than that it was a great time and can’t wait for next year.

hello just wanted to comment on fan fair the sound was horrible this year and was unorganized also not only on the smaller stages but also the main stages distorted, sound cutting off, squeeling, just bad all around n just makes the bands look bad. also putting groups on smaller stages that should b on the main stages was also an issue it was like whoever put this 2gether didnt know anything bout the bands they booked to play so hopefully this will b looked at and fixed in the future cuz the schedule being posted 2 weeks b4 is no good alot of bands didnt even know they were on there or had any idea cuz it was baddly put 2gether. thanks

To all my Tejano friends, good to see ya all @ Fan Fair! Saw alot of good bands but was very disappointed in the sound systems used, the only good sounding systems were on the San Saba stages. The Hidalgo and the Mi Tierra Mariachi stage systems had speakers that were distorting and cutting in and out. This makes the bands that put money out of their pockets to go perform for the fans in hope of getting some recognition look very bad. Hopefully this issue can be adressed in the future. Also, it would be nice if some of the old school Tejano Legends such as Shaggy Garcia and Rene Serrata were givin spots on the main stages not the lesser stages. After all, they date back to the beginning were Tejano first began. They should be treated with a little more dignity. I also heard complaints from some of the bands that not enough advance notice was givin to them that they were chosen to perform, which i believe is another issue that should be adressed seeing that some of these bands travel a long ways without compensation to perform, they should at least be givin a little more advance notice so that they may better plan for such a trip. Congratulations to TTMA on their 30 yr. anniversary and Thanks for keepin Tejano alive!

The music was great tonight (Friday). We are so happy we made it to San Antonio. Everyone be on the lookout for Ilyssa Saenz. She will be the next great tejano talent! We can’t get her out of our mind after tonight’s performance. People from the other stages rushed in and additional security was brought in. She was just super.
